Assistant Operations Analyst

Job Description:
To provide support through the performance of a variety of specialized duties relating to economic monitoring, assessment, and analytical work and selected aspects of the country operational program.

2. EXPECTED OUTCOMES:
    * Provides data support and background research for the preparation of major economic documents including the regular Pakistan Economic Updates, the Pakistan chapters for the Asian Development Outlook (ADO) and ADO Update reports, and assists in the preparation of regular briefings and presentations on the economy.
    * Maintains a database on key economic and social indicators and regularly updates economic and social sector statistics.
    * Responds to requests for data, information, and reports on ADB’s publications on the economy and maintains contact with relevant staff in the Federal Bureau of Statistics, State Bank, and Ministry of Finance to obtain latest economic data and reports from these agencies.
    * Reviews and scans daily newspapers, economic journals, and reports by the Government and development partners to collect and collate information and analysis on the state of the national economy.
    * Assists in the preparation of the Country Performance Assessment for Pakistan including providing analytical and data support to the authors of the various parts of the assessment.
    * Provides background inputs to the Pakistan Resident Mission’s (PRM’s) publications including the quarterly newsletters, activity reports, press releases etc.
    * Supports the County Director’s office in maintaining and strengthening effective relationship with other donors and development partners through compiling necessary data and information on activities and programs of other donors, arranging donor coordination meetings, and maintaining records and minutes of such meetings.

3. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Business Studies and related fields. Master’s degree would be preferred.

4. RELEVANT EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
    * Suitability to undertake the responsibilities mentioned above at the required level.
    * At least 5 years relevant experience, preferably with at least two years in international multilateral and bilateral agencies.
    * Good writing and speaking skills in English are essential.
    * Proven ability to do background economic research and analysis on difficult but well-defined tasks; collect and organize required data and information, apply appropriate computer skill in analyzing and developing the data and prepare sectoral notes, analytical papers and sections of report.
    * Good analytical thinking with ability to make simple causal link, pro- and con- lists and analyses to reach decision and set priorities for task in order of importance.
    * Ability to establish and maintain productive contacts with appropriate official of host government, donor agencies and executing agencies.
    * Good interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work with individuals from different cultural/national backgrounds.
    * Good computer skills with sound knowledge of common word-processing, spreadsheets and graphics software and database management.
    * Familiarity with local languages and institutions.

The advertised position is a local staff position with a local remuneration package. It is open only to persons who are nationals and residents of Pakistan.
